This information implies that the more maca you take, the better. Nor does it mention, as some other descriptions do on this site, to stop taking it sometimes.
I was taking 2tbs of maca every day, probably for a couple of years. Since no description I read on Upaya stressed the importance of not taking it all the time, I didn't think it mattered much that I took it continually.
I also had no idea why my skin always had breakouts.
As a result of research I did elsewhere on maca, I read about a girl whose skin cleared up when she stopped taking maca continually.
I went off it for a month, and my skin cleared up completely. Now I take 1tbs for 6 days and give my body a break on the seventh. According to my research, a rest period is the best way to enjoy maca's phyto-benefits. And my skin remains clear and healthy.
Upaya Response: The reason why there is no other information other than what is posted for Maca, is for two reasons: first the manufacturers do not list this information. Second, we have found no actual studies to show that maca causes breakouts or that this is a side effect. We do not place any credit on personal anecdotal evidence as it is unreliable and may or may not be accurate even for the individual. There are numerous other factors involved in a skin eruption. If you can find a scientific study showing this correlation, please send it to us and upon verifying its credibility, we can forward it to the manufacturers as well. We do not recommend that anyone overeat one particular food (and that can be various amounts for each person), and although the manufacturers may say differently, that is not necessarily reflective of what we may do or advise. The only advice we give on eating any food or supplement, is to consult with your qualified health care professional before consuming. They can certainly help you decide if the food/product is right for you, the quantities and if it is needed short term, long term or periodically. Hope this helps!
