You have seen it in many products and you have
heard people speak of it. But what is argan oil?
love this fruit delicious and will climb the prickly Argan trees to eat it. In
the past, the pits from the goat’s droppings were cracked open and the kernels
inside were pressed to make Argan Oil. The journey through the digestive system
of a goat is not a necessary step in making quality Argan Oil. So we at Saadia
Organics leave that step out. However, it does make for an interesting fact.

How it’s made:
its naturally nutty aroma, Argan Oil is not made from a nut at all. Argania

of the pit of the fruit. This product is nut-free.

the tree. It is picked and opened. The outer layer of fruit is often given to
local goats and the pits are removed and dried in the sun.
hard work begins. Each pit is cracked between two stones. The kernels are then
removed, crushed in a mortar with a pestle, and then ground into a thick paste
by hand with a stone quern. The paste is then squeezed to produce the oil. The
solid part of the paste is used as animal feed or a type of soap.
two varieties of Argan Oil. Some is for culinary purposes and some is for
cosmetic use. If the oil is to be used in cuisine, the kernels are roasted
before grinding. This brings out the delicious nutty flavour in the oil.
Roasted kernels produce a lot more oil than unroasted kernels. This is why
culinary Argan Oil is less expensive than cosmetic.
for cosmetic use is made from raw, unroasted pits. It too has a slightly nutty
aroma when you first apply it. But that scent disappears within a few minutes.
Note: Beware of “deodorized” Argan
Oil. The process used to take the aroma out of the oil is said to damage the
amazing abilities of pure untouched Argan Oil. Saadia Organics is proud to only
offer you the most natural, authentic product possible.
is made of unsaturated fatty acids, Vitamin E/tocopherols, squalene and
sterols. Each of these components is unique and useful for different reasons.
Some act as antioxidants. Others help with chronic inflammation. Some
properties are even known for their ability to protect against skin cancer and
for being anti-tumorigenic.
use Argan Oil:
1 - Argan
oil has gained a lot of popularity because of hair care products that promote
it. Pure argan oil is amazing on the scalp. It soothes dry, itchy scalp. And it
helps with flaking. In the hair itself, real argan oil can rebuild damaged
hair, leaving it feeling very soft. But pure argan oil is to be used as a
treatment rather than a daily hair product. Our suggestion is to massage it
into the scalp and hair in the evening before bed. In the morning, wash it out
with your regular shampoo. You will notice your hair feels softer and shinier.
And don’t worry…it won’t stain your pillow case.
2 - Argan
oil is amazing during pregnancy. It will soothe stretching bellies, helping to
prevent stretch marks. Argan oil can produce relief for many skin irritations that
occur during pregnancy. On babies, argan oil can be a one-stop solution for
issues such as: baby eczema, baby rash, and diaper rash. Don’t forget to apply
argan oil when breastfeeding. Not only is it safe for baby, but it will quickly
soothe the pains and cracks that breastfeeding can
you have dry, cracked, weak nails, argan oil may be what you’re looking for.
Because of the incredibly high content of Vitamin E, argan oil will help to
rebuild nail beds and cuticles resulting in healthier nails. Dipping your
fingers in a small bowl of argan oil will produce almost instant results. In
Morocco, women often mix a few drops of lemon juice with a small dish of argan
oil to soak the cuticles.
4 - We
have saved the best for last: Argan oil is wonderful on the skin. Helping with
everything from cracked heels to chapped lips, argan oil will soothe the skin,
absorbing quickly and bringing great results. It is a powerful moisturizer for
the face and will not leave it greasy or oily. It actually helps to clear the
skin of blemishes and to restore its natural balance. Exfoliating is a
great idea before applying argan oil. If possible, use some sort of exfoliating
mitt or brush in the shower and once dry, apply argan oil liberally. Your skin
will glow and will feel 10 years younger.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are the bottles blue?
breaks down the properties of Argan Oil. The dark glass protects your oil and
keeps it in the state in which it can be most effective.
How long will my bottle be good for?
Argan Oil is naturally high in tocopherols, it will be fresh for quite a while!
Tocopherol is a natural antioxidant that keeps things in their original state -
thus automatically preserving the oil without us needing to add anything to it.
The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) says that the shelf life of Argan Oil is
24 months after bottling.
I've seen different brands of Argan Oil being sold
for all kinds of prices on the internet. Some cheap, some expensive. What's up
comes to Argan Oil, cheaper isn't better. Neither is the most expensive in some
cases! A lot of Argan Oil being sold is diluted or fake -- even if you're
getting it right in Morocco. Saadia herself (our Production Manager) doesn't
trust most of the Argan Oil she sees in and around Essaouira and she's
determined to get the purest, best quality Argan Oil into your hands. She seems
to find anything less utterly insulting and offensive. There is one brand being
sold in a chain store that is very highly priced, and obviously highly
processed. It doesn't look, smell or feel like Argan Oil at all. Cheap Argan
Oil most likely should not be trusted, as it takes several hours to produce one
litre of the oil. No one would be able to sell the real thing for an extremely
How can I spot fake Argan Oil?
be very wary of Argan Oil sold in clear or plastic bottles. Both make the oil
deteriorate, and any producer of quality Argan Oil wouldn't put this liquid
gold in anything other than a dark cobalt or amber glass bottle.
Argan Oil is most effective in it's least processed state. If the oil has
little to no smell, that would concern us. It either means that the oil is
completely fake or mixed with other oils. Or it might just mean that the oil
has been deodorized -- a process which is said to rob Argan Oil of it's best
properties. Pure Argan Oil should smell nutty. We at Saadia Organics think it
smells a bit like a rubber band... and perhaps even a bit like popcorn. If the
oil smells too deliciously nutty and is quite dark in colour, it most likely is
Argan Oil for culinary use. This edible form of the oil is easier to produce,
so it is lower in price. It certainly won't hurt to use it on your skin, hair
and nails - but it won't do the same magic as Argan Oil for cosmetic use does.
