Unlike other brands on the market, our Monk Fruit powder does not contain alcohol extracted erythritol as the first ingredient such as brands like "Lokanto".
Monk Fruit has been used as a medicinal herb for treating coughs, sore throats, tension, and is commonly considered, in southern China, to be a longevity aid.
Also known as Lo Han Guo, it is collected as a round green fruit that turns brown upon drying. The sweet taste of monk fruit mostly comes from mogrosides, a group of terpene glycosides, present at the level of about 1% of the fleshy part of the fruit. When formed into a powder this produces 7% mogrosides, making this sweeter than standard cane sugar.
In its powder format, it can be seen as an extract or in a concentrated form. Keep this in mind when using this product: a very little goes a long way. Mogrosides are now being studied for their antioxidant properties. The digestive system does not metabolize mogrosides therefore it is considered to be non-caloric.
Ideal for use by diabetics and hypoglycemics, this natural sweetener will not elevate insulin levels and may have an anti-hyperglycemic effect via the inhibition of maltase.
