Lucuma, also called Pouteria Obovata (Lucuma Obovata) pronounced Loo- Ku- Mah. Lucuma is an exotic Peruvian fruit once known as the “Gold of the Inca’s” that has been honored spiritually and culinarily since ancient times. Within the Peruvian culture, lucuma is often part of celebrations and banquet settings because of its distinct and fragrant flavor. In some parts of Peru, lucuma also plays a significant part in the basic diets of the poor.

One tree can produce as many as five hundred fruits during a year and lucuma literally becomes the tree of life when field crops are out of season or damaged by drought.

The lucuma is a member of the Sapotaceae family and is similar to the canistel fruit. Its unique and fragrant flavor resembles maple syrup. Lucuma is low in acid, low in sugar and contains an excellent source of carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins and minerals. It is especially abundant in beta-carotene, niacin and iron with significant amounts of calcium and phosphorus.

Lucuma is one of the lost crops of the Incas and its remarkable nutritional value and exotic flavor make it worth recognizing and appreciating. The Peruvian’s savor the taste of it in ice cream, as it is one of their most popular flavors. Natural Zing’s lucuma is available in powder, raw and sun-dried, so it is easy to enjoy.

Discover the flavorful sensation of lucuma. Enjoy it by itself or mix it in your favorite treat. For an extra special treat, make sure to combine it with some raw cacao nibs, vanilla bean, and coconut butter. Blend into a creamy delight. Lucuma powder can add creamy delight to any smoothie. Use this in place of agave nectar.

Lucuma contains vitamin B1,B2, C. Iron, Fibre, and phosphorous.

Upaya Naturals is one of the few places I can find lucuma powder. I like adding it to smoothies, puddings, desserts, etc. It is very sweet with a caramel-ish taste. I use it because I like the taste and it’s superfood qualities is just a bonus!

5 of 5 Amazingly different! December 18, 2016

I had never tried this before and was thinking it was more of a sugar substitute but when I tried....it wasn't but no worries....when I called the Staff explained how it was more a super food and to add to drinks or sauces.  Then I reread the description here in their website and gave it another chance.  I was pleasantly delighted....it's grand and blends with smoothies, sauces I make and even my home made apple sauce combined with more fruit.....it's a real booster in more ways than one.  It mixes in very easily and really boosts taste and of course all the body needs.  It's certainly worth a try.  Just like everything I have tried so far....plus I love trying new things.....love variety, especially when helping Animals, our Planet, Health, love being Vegan and certainly supporting all Vegan websites.  :)
